Obama!

Not having internet or cable at my house I was unable to watch or keep updated on the election process last night. At around eight o clock last night I recieved several texts from friends reporting "OBAMA IS PRESIDENT!!!" This seriously made me so glad, and brought a sigh of relief to me knowing there will not be another four years of what we have now. Starting January 20 Bush will leave office and change will begin. Not only do I feel Barack Obama will represent our country respectfully and deal with situations the best way possible, but he represents something more. The fact that after hundreds of years of discrimination an African-American is finally elected into presidency proves that our country is on its way to change for the better. i called my dad after hearing about some of the results so he could inform me on what has happened. Hearing about all the famous African-American responses to his presidency was incredible. Apparently many of them, such as Jessie Jackson and Oprah Winfrey started to cry after hearing that what they have fought for has come true. This election began a change for the best.

Why do you believe that because we will have an African American President that "our country is on its way to change for the better"? Do you believe that race played a role in Obama's victory?

I believe it is a step closer to Americans looking past the color of skin and after Obama I believe any race, religion, sex, etc. will be able to run for office and not feel vulnerable. Obama was incredibly brave for what he did and for the tasks he will need to overcome ahead of him. I do not think Obama's race played any part of his victory, if anything it hindered it. I think any Democrat would have won because of the things Republicans have brought to our country over the past eight years.

yeah 4 years. I had a blonde moment. I hope he will stand up for freedom of religion because that is in our constitution, which is part of our government.

It was historical for alot of people. I agree but i dont think Obama would be any huge difference better than McCain. They were adressing similar issues and both had there strong points. But in all, it proves that America is over the racial issues. We have come so far from a few hundred years ago. Even just a hundred! From slavery years ago, African Americans slowly worked their way up society and now we have a African American elected as president, this shows how far America has come.
